Mutual fund timers are a targeted group. Of the 5,154 domestic equity funds tracked by Lipper, 4,098 charge redemption fees of 0.75% to 2.00% to investors who do not hold their shares for at least 90 days. So do 561 of the 1,018 sector funds followed. It is the SEC and not the mutual fund companies, that is strongly resisting any increase in the 2% limit on redemption fees.
